BEHIND THE SCENES OF 'LUCID'
Step behind the curtain and into the making of Lucid, where big ideas and bold design collide. This is your invitation to go beyond the stage and explore how elements of the show came to life.
It's a glimpse into the creativity, collaboration, and controlled madness that shape every moment, proving that the magic of Lucid starts long before the lights go up.
BEHIND THE ACT: THE FLYING BED
For Lucid’s aerial showstopper 'Dream On', the goal was simple: make a bed fly.
What began as a full-scale prototype quickly evolved into something far more ambitious, as creative, technical, and performance teams worked side by side to bring the vision to life.
The result is a custom-built aerial apparatus that transforms an ordinary bedtime scene into something extraordinary. As the music swells, the act shifts from quiet stillness to full-blown spectacle, launching both performer and audience into a surreal, gravity-defying dreamscape.
Part dream. Part spectacle. Entirely Dracula’s.

BEHIND THE ACT: THE DRAWS

What looks like a perfectly normal piece of furniture quickly proves otherwise.
To bring this illusion to life, another signature Dracula’s custom build was required. The team collaborated to design a structure both sturdy and deceptively simple, capable of concealing multiple performers.
Inspired by physical comedy, burlesque, and vaudevillian illusion, the act is both mischievous and playful. With props tossed from half-open drawers and limbs appearing, disappearing, and interacting in impossible ways. It's a playground for perfectly timed chaos.

BEHIND THE WARDROBE

The world of Lucid started taking shape long before opening night, with costume design kicking off eight months in advance.
From the start, it’s been a collaborative process with our in-house design team and creatives working closely to craft a visual identity that feels bold, offbeat, and a little bit dangerous. Drawing from the glamour of burlesque and cabaret, each look is reimagined through a surreal, dreamlike lens, blending elegance with edge. Every costume is designed to reflect the strange logic of the subconscious - moody, dramatic, and deliberately unpolished in all the right ways.

Production was underway months before opening across in-house workrooms in Melbourne and the Gold Coast. Each piece was carefully constructed from initial concept to a stage-ready design, ensuring every detail felt as immersive and otherworldly as the show itself.
